APPLIED INDUSTRY RESEARCH
As home to one of the Top 50 international Fashion Schools, George Brown College works proactively with industry stakeholders to advance research and new innovation in the areas of design, creative arts, materials and production methods. Fashion Exchange Leading Innovation in Fashion Technology (FX LIFT) will help fashion industry partners to achieve greater sustainability and technology adoption, become more competitive and realize a circular economy in the Canadian apparel sector.
Fashion Exchange embodies the College’s ongoing commitment to this tradition by bringing online new spaces, resources and technologies in support of applied industry research. In recent years the School of Fashion has collaborated on more than twenty applied research projects in partnership with industry stakeholders, while supporting hundreds of students in acquiring new skills in technical sampling, prototype development and small batch manufacturing. Projects have focused on addressing a range of product development, material, production and manufacturing challenges of bringing new technologies and product lines to market.

The Leading Innovation in Fashion Technology lab (FX LIFT) provides our students and industry partners with a suite of technologies that will bring products to market in a faster and more sustainable way—producing designs locally and with less waste. We are excited about the potential to transform the fashion industry. Implementation of these new technologies provide local industry with access to equipment to conduct research, to integrate innovation and bring their products to the market faster.
