HISTORIAN & CONTEMPORARY KIMONO DESIGNER

Discover and develop an appreciation for the cultural heritage of the Japanese kimono. Be introduced to the textiles, design and method of construction of kimono, and save a traditional kimono from being discarded and repurpose to a new life for modern wear.
Attendees will have the opportunity to select an authentic Japanese preloved kimono to purchase and upcycle. Value range from $20 – $245 based on fiber content, craftsmanship, historical and cultural significance and condition. Industrial single needle sewing machines and sergers are available for experienced industrial sewers. Others are encourage to bring their own domestic machines.
Day 1: Friday, January 25th, 2019 – Introduction, Welcome Reception and Kimono Selection
Day 2: Saturday, January 26th, 2019 – Cultural significance and practices for the Japanese Kimono, disassembly and design plan
Day 3: Saturday February 2nd, 2019 – Upcycling workshop continued, complete kimono upcycling project
